Restraints provide numerous functions:
1. As a reminder or to prevent the resident from leaving the wheelchair or bed
2. Limits arm and leg mobility (mitts, limb holders etc)
3. Assists in achieving optimal wheelchair posturing.
4. Adds safety to caregiver and resident, especially those who are confused
Although there are regulations that call out that restraints should be used only if necessary, in many scenarios a
restraint is necessary for a specific resident. Regulations also state that if a restraint is used, it should used only
when necessary. These restraints were developed and intended only to be used in an acute care or long-term care
setting. Refer to our control point chart located in the literature section of our website (skil-care.com). Skil-Care
offers a wide selection of registered restraints.
